For that money you can build a monster.
Core 2 duo cpu
8800gtx video card
4 gb ram
soundblaster xfi
Raptor hard drive
1000w power supply
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE motherboard
What ever case you feel like
Whatever dvd drives you feel like
And a cpu cooler depending on wether you dont mind noise and want to overclock, or dont want to overclock and keep it quiet.

Then how the hell do you expect to build a PC? You have to buy the parts seperate and then put them together, that's the entire ideology behind building your own PC.

I think GeekSquad in Best Buy have the service of assembling computer. This is something I'm not sure.
Here's something I am sure about. Dell have customized computer service on their website. When you order form the website, there's an option called "Customize it". There you can choose to have your computer customized.

Firstly I doubt that you are Jewish and if you are I fail to see how your religion impacts on building a computer. Personally I think you are referring to the Jewish stereotype in a derogative manner.
Try checking out Alienware who build gaming pc's. They will be more expensive than building a computer yourself, but that is always the way.

Since when? All Alienware do is put together some decent components and place them in a crappy plastic case and charge you thousands for it. Then a few months down the line when you realised that Alienware didn't bother to include enough cooling solutions for the hardware and your expensive bit of junk goes tits up, it hit's you and you realise:-
Alienware are shite! Complete and utter shite!

I concurr about Dell not being that great, the same goes for Gateway and any other service oriented company. They tend to offer better deals sometimes, but use lower quality hardware, entry level or "generic" parts.
Build it yourself. It's all but idiot proof, any competent adult can do it, well, nevermind. My competent brother in-law used a vacume on his mobo and fried it. Everyone's competent till they screw up I guess.
If you just don't want the risk, there are several off brand websites that will offer comprehensive choices of parts from all makers in a neat package, and usually have a 360 day warrantee.
I got my rig from ibuypower.com, they did a good job, Drop down menu for every part and had wide selections, even down to cables and such, but that was a while back I guess.
With 3k, you could go name brand(and well above entry level) with every part, and get a snazzy monitor.
I thought I had a problem with mine and they were more than helpful, ended up being a video card I put in, that was pulled from the market soon-after(Radeon 9800xt, A waste of 400$,) Wasn't their stuff or work at all.
That turned into a rant.
My bad.

If I wanted a quality computer built for me, I would order it from Digital Storm (http://www.digitalstormonline.com/) . They use high quality parts and their machines look cool. They also offer excellent cooling solutions (including H20)and will overclock to your specifications. I find their prices quite reasonable.
For under $3000, you could build your own computer. This is what I am running now. Prices are rounded to the nearest dollar....
Case: Lian Li PC-65 silver $120.00
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower Modular 700w $160.00
Main board: Abit AW9D (Intel 975X) $170.00
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz $318.00
HS/F: Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX $55.00
VGA: EVGA 8800GTX $580.00
Memory: 2 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 (6400) $280.00
HDD: 2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10K RPM $220.00 each ($440 total)
Optical #1: Asus DVD ROM/CD-ROM drive $20.00
Optical #2: Asus DVD burner $36.00
FDD: Mitsumi 3.5 1.44MB FDD (only needed to set up HDDs in RAID) $6.00
OS: MS Windows XP MCE w/ SP2 $110.00
Anti-Virus: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 $55.00
Input: Logitech MX3200 Laser RF keyboard and mouse $73.00
Monitor: ViewSonic VX922 Black/Silver 2ms LCD Monitor $270.00
I think that's under $2500.00.
Around 11,000 in 3DMark06 (modestly overclocked: FSB @ 322 --> CPU 2.90 GHz). Good enuf for most games even at extreme settings.

ok ive been looking into this more and
1st off-NO ALIANWARE, cnet reviews-2,1,2,3,2,4,5,2...(out of 10)...you get the idea
2nd-widowpc.com, they seemed halfway decent(by the way, i should of said ''customize a computer'' not ''build'' cuz i was implying that i was going to use the custimization feature that most computer stores online have)
id prefer to stick away from dell, gateway and those sorts of companies as they seem to do bad buisness, and my current computer is a gateway...to many problems that outsourced employs dont seem to help with
lets get this thread back into action

DO NOT BUY DELL. Try cyberpowerpc, they do pretty good comps for the mots reasonable prices I've found. Dell, alienware, etc. are way overpriced for no bonus. Falcon is also overpriced, but it's actually worth it. Go with cyberpower.

Just googled it and looks like your Best Buy equates to our PC World, and that's definitely not a good thing at all.
